Industrial Visit - 2021
As a part of curriculum, I year MBA students visited industries Deccan Plast industries and Ace foods pvt. Ltd on 17/02/2021
- Deccan plast industries
The students received a very warm welcome by the company and the executives from the company guided the students at shop floor where actual production was taking place. Plant visit was followed by an interactive session with the students.
Deccan Plast Industries was found in the year 1992, as a partnership firm which is located in Baikampady, Mangalore about 3000 sq. ft. area. It has around 10 years of experience in plast industry and has no branches of it. It mainly uses the Chinese technology having seven machines with 30 workers whose usual working hours are from 8.30am to 8.30pm. Reliance, IOCL, MRPL, ONGC are the main sources for raw materials. Deccan plast quality moulded solutions consists of a vast array of plastic moulded furniture like relax chairs, stools, chairs for children, dining table etc. and also has material handling solution like crates and baskets to facilitate storing and logistics of very vast range of industrial and consumer products. The production of product depends on its size and demand in the market for the product. In the case of chairs, they produce 1200 chairs per day. Their area of marketing is Southern region, and they are planning for its extension. The industry has limited waste from the plastic which is either reused or treated as scrap. The owner says that before advertising they try to reach their product to particular place. And he also advised the students to be an entrepreneur so that the employment may generate.
- Ace Foods Private Limited
It was found in the year 1984. Ace foods pvt. Ltd. Has always presented their chain of savories with assured quality, manufactured and delivered under the brand name of Modern Kitchen. It has expanded its footprints with its products being made available in Australia and the middle east. In USA their product is sold under the brand name Anand. It is mainly into the production of potato wafers, sweets, banana chips, potato chips etc. It had started its first branch in Yeyyadi and second branch is in Ganjimutt, Vamanjoor. There are 45 workers who work manual to machine within a year. The 60 to 70% of it is export and 30% to domestic. Every production process of potatoes has to undergo frying, adding spices, packing etc. The used oil is later supplied to soap making company. Their main focus is on manufacturing good quality product. They try that their quality does not get lower.
Students came to know about the manufacturing process, plant operations capacity during lean and peak seasons, quality control practices, sales and marketing strategies, supply chain and logistics management. The company also briefed about the future expansion plans. The students had very learning and memorizing experiences and the overall visit was very successful.
