The Steady Flame Behind the Spotlight by Mrs. Susan Kuruvilla

A session titled “The Steady Flame Behind the Spotlight” was held on 4th September 2025, organized in association with IQAC and the Women’s Development Cell. The session featured Mrs. Susan Kuruvilla, M.Ed., who shared her inspiring experiences as the spouse of Air Vice Marshal P.K. Kuruvilla.

Mrs. Kuruvilla spoke about the challenges and adjustments faced by Air Force families, recounting her early days of married life, frequent transfers, and the importance of family support in managing responsibilities. She highlighted the unity and resilience that Air Force families maintain even when confronted with risks and uncertainties.

She also provided insights into the functioning of an Air Force station and the disciplined lifestyle followed by officers and their families. Mrs. Kuruvilla described how children adapt to new schools, languages, and environments due to regular transfers, while sharing her own experiences of teaching in Air Force schools, supporting her children’s education, and managing independently during her husband’s overseas postings.

As she progressed as a senior officer’s wife, she took on responsibilities such as organizing Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA) meetings and managing hostels for the children of personnel, ensuring their welfare and education.

In conclusion, Mrs. Susan Kuruvilla emphasized the core values of resilience, discipline, and mutual support that define the life of Air Force families. The session offered valuable insights into the strength and adaptability required to support officers serving the nation.
