Guest Talk on Vagaries of the Stock Market by Deepak K Rao

A talk by Mr Deepak Rao was organised for all MBA students on Monday 9th December 2019 at 11 am. Mr. Deepak K Rao is the Founder & Director of ‘Simplus Financial Consultancy Private Limited’ Bangalore, started in November 2006. Simplus is a company which offers personal financial planning and wealth management services for retail investors, training to students and corporates in investments, personal financial planning , as well as training students in the working of the Stock Exchange.

He has been associated with LKP Shares & Securities Ltd. and with Sykes & Ray Equities India Ltd. Both situated at Mumbai. He has conducted various studies into the effectiveness of various investment systems

Mr Deepak Rao has an MBA in Finance from A J Institute of Management affiliated to Mangalore University. He is also Visiting Faculty for Diploma in Personal Investment Management (DIPIM) at St. Aloysius Evening College, Mangalore and is Pursuing Certified Financial Planner (CFP) from Financial Planning & Standard Boards (FPSB).

The program began with a prayer by Megha II MBA. Soujanya introduced the guest and welcomed the gathering. Mr Deepak Rao began the session by asking the audience of their expectations from the stock market. He related the stories of three different types of people who want different things from life. He stressed that one must be clear in ones goals in life, and must not envy the success of possessions of others.

He explained that the stock market is not the entity with risk, but the investor who is the actual risk. He illustrated the difference between speculation and investment and listed a few principles to be followed by any intelligent investor. He advised the students against speculation and the greed for short term windfall gains.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ranjitha and a few words of appreciation by the Director. The program was attended by the Director, Dean, Faculty and students.
