The Manel Srinivas Nayak Memorial Human Rights Committee of Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management (MSNIM), Bondel, Mangaluru, in association with IQAC, organized an awareness session titled “The Gen-Z Navigation of Human Rights – From Essential to Self-Actualization” on 10 December 2025, marking Human Rights Day.
The session was delivered by Ms. Ida D’Souza, Assistant Professor - Selection Grade MAHE, Manipal who spoke about the importance of understanding and managing emotions in everyday life. She explained that emotional awareness helps individuals make responsible decisions and live with dignity and respect for others. She also highlighted basic aspects of human life such as safety, access to food, dignity, and the freedom to express one’s voice.
Ms. Ida also spoke about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, explaining the rights to survival, development, participation, and growth. She emphasized that human rights are inherent, universal, and inalienable, and that everyone has a responsibility to respect and protect them. The session also touched upon the pillars of human rights—social, civil, political, cultural, and economic rights—and briefly addressed issues related to human rights in business, including labour rights, discrimination, environmental responsibility, and data privacy.
As part of the Human Rights Day celebration, a Skit Competition was also conducted for the MBA 2027 batch. Students presented short performances highlighting different social issues and the importance of respecting human rights. The performances were judged by internal faculty members based on creativity, presentation, and relevance to the theme.
The program was informative and engaging, and helped students gain a better understanding of the importance of human rights in everyday life.
