Chaithanya-Visit to Old Age Home

June 29, 2022

MBA previous year students of Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management , Mrs.Ashalatha, Faculty Member, and Mrs. Yogitha, Sr. Administrative officer, paid a visit to the ‘Namma Hiriyara Mane' an Old Age Home at Purkodi, Dakshinakannada on 29th June 2022, as an activity of Chaithanya programme, a Social Responsibility Initiatives framed by the institute under the guidance of director and staff and students.

The purpose of this visit was to make the students realise their social responsibilities toward Senior Citizens. Such visits activate the students to think and understand the agony and pain which people go through in their old age while living away from their dear ones. The visit intended to teach them how to interact with the elderly who may have poor hearing and understanding along with other health problems as a result of their old age.

Our students went with high enthusiasm and conviction to contribute their best during their visit. Sneha Bharathi Vidya Samsthe (R) trust manages this old age home with central government aid. Home has about forty inmates consisting of 15 females and the rest males.

In the beginning, Mr. Sunil, official of the home briefed about the organization and daily routine of the inmates. Later students started interacting with the inmates. They sang songs for them, narrated stories, and encouraged the inmates to show their talents. The inmates also happily participated and sang folk songs, bhajans and exchanged their family stories with the students. The officials of the home also entertained the students.

Though the Old Age Home management was providing them with excellent emotional and physical care, still our students observed that such homes demanded frequent visits and some more spending of time with the Senior Citizens. The institute donated some amount to the betterment fund of the old age home.

Thus, the visit to the Old Age Home concluded with loads of warmth and showers of blessings extended from the elderly to our team of students and Faculty Members. We bid them goodbye with a saddened heart but with a promise to revisit them frequently.
